To see your browser encryption rate, also known as cipher strength:
- Open your Internet Explorer browser.
- Click Help on the Internet Explorer toolbar.
- Click About Internet Explorer.
- Cipher strenth (encryption rate) is listed in the About Internet Explorer window.
- If your cipher strength is less than 128-bit, you can update your browser at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/default.mspx.
To see your browser SSL version:
- Open your Internet Explorer browser.
- Click Tools.
- Click Internet Options.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Scroll to the bottom of the window.
- Confirm that the following options are checked:
- Use SSL 2.0
- Use SSL 3.0
- Use TLS 1.0
- If any of these options is not checked, click the adjacent box to select it.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.

Netscape Navigator or Communicator (Versions before 8.0)

To see your browser encryption rate, also known as cipher strength:
- Open your Netscape Navigator or Communicator browser.
- Click Help on Netscape Navigator or Communicator toolbar.
- Click About Navigator (or Communicator)
- In the window that opens, look for a section on RSA security.
- If this section reads, "This version supports U.S. security," your browser supports 128-bit encryption. If the section indicates that you have an export version, your browser only supports 40-bit. (Further details are also available by clicking on Security on the Navigator toolbar)
- If your cipher strength is less than 128-bit, you can update your browser at http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/download/default.jsp.
To see your browser SSL version:
- Open your Netscape Navigator or Communicator browser.
- Click Edit on the toolbar.
- Click Preferences.
- Click Privacy & Security
- Click SSL.
- Confirm that the following options are checked:
- Use SSL 2.0
- Use SSL 3.0
- Use TLS 1.0
- If any of these options is not checked, click the adjacent box to select it.
- Click Okay to save your changes.
You should also check your browser encryption settings at this screen as follows:
- Click the Edit Ciphers button in the upper right of the SSL screen.
- Verify that all options beginning with either "128-bit" or "168-bit" have a check mark next to them.

Netscape Version 8.0 (Netscape version 8.0 has 128 bit encryption. You do not need to check this setting.)

To check your SSL settings:
- Open your Netscape browser.
- Click Tools on the Netscape toolbar.
- Click Options.
- Click Advanced.
- On the Advanced panel, scroll to the Security section. (If no subcategories are visible, click
to expand the list.)
- Confirm that the following options are checked:
- Use SSL 2.0
- Use SSL 3.0
- Use TLS 1.0
- If any of these options is not checked, click the adjacent box to select it.
- Click OK to save your changes.

Mozilla Firefox

To see your browser encryption rate, also known as cipher strength:
- Open your Mozilla Firefox browser.
- Click Help on the Mozilla Firefox toolbar.
- Click About Mozilla Firefox.
- Verify that you have version number 1.0 or higher. If you have a version that is less than 1.0, you will need to upgrade your browswer. You can do so at http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/.
To see your browser SSL version:
- Open your Mozilla Firefox browser.
- Click Tools on the Mozilla Firefox toolbar.
- Click Options.
- Click Advanced.
- On the Advanced panel, scroll to the Security section. (If no subcategories are visible, click
to expand the list.)
- Confirm that the following options are checked:
- Use SSL 2.0
- Use SSL 3.0
- Use TLS 1.0
- If any of these options is not checked, click the adjacent box to select it.
- Click OK to save your changes.

Opera

To see your browser SSL version and encryption rate:
- Open your Opera browser.
- Click Tools on the Opera toolbar.
- Click Preferences.
- Click the Advanced tab at the top of the new window.
- Click Security on the left.
- Click the Security Protocols button on the right.
- Confirm that the following options are checked:
- Use SSL 2.0
- Use SSL 3.0
- Use TLS 1.0
- If any of these options is not checked, click the adjacent box to select it.
You can view your encryption rate (cipher strength) settings on the same screen by scrolling the small window entitled Select ciphers to enable.
- Confirm that all options for SSL3/TLS 1 that included 168 bit, 128 bit, and 256 bit are checked.
- If there are not checks in the boxes next to any of these options, click the box to select it.
- Click OK to save your changes.
- You can download updates to Opera at http://www.opera.com/download/.
